Latitude lines are horizontal lines that exist at intervals on our spherical planet. Longitudinal lines are vertical lines which exist at intervals on our spherical planet. Latitude and longitude is the most standard way of describing an absolute location. Absolute locations differ from relative locations in that absolute location is mathematically derived and each and every point on earth has a unique description. In addition, with decimal places you can get more and more precise right down to a single dot. Relative locations, like addresses, cities, countries, parcel numbers, etc. can vary over time, may have duplicate places they might refer to, and can 't be drilled down quite as precisely. Because absolute locations are mathematical (and grid oriented) they can also be used to calculate area, distance, orientation, and angles in ways that relative locations cannot.
